SORTING AND ORGANISING A WHOLE LOTTA INFO.

5 ways to organise information:

Alphabetical, Time, Location, Continuum, Category

Initially, the task of organising a mass of photographic information into 'groups' seemed quite straightfoward because we already had to document in categories: people, textues, places, words and objects. But this depended on the information that had been documented in response to this. I found organising using the Alphabetical and Continuum methods most effective. I just feel sorry for the person who had to organise mine.

Even through organising information alone, i think you can produce some cool visually interesting stuff!

COLLECT.CATEGORISE.COMMUNICATE.

So,since assessment week, the emphasis has been on research rather than outcome.

'Process is more important than outcome. When the outcome drives the process we will only ever go to where we've already been. If process drives outcome we may not know where we're going, but we will know we want to be there.'
Bruce Mau Design.2006

The quote above really does make a lot of sense...i've definitely been one of those people who has left research until the last minute therefore producing a load of stuff which isn't relevant to the outcome. If you research thoroughly, i guess this then informs the next stages of idea generation etc, the exciting/nerve racking bit being you're not quite sure where its heading, whereas if you work backwards, you'll just be covering the same ground, never discovering or venturing into the unknown!! You've also gotta do the reseach to be in the know! Whats the point in producing an outcome for summet you know nothing or very little about??????

NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS-part 2

MESSAGE AND INTERPRETATION
After locating my quote in the September 15th issue of the Guardian newspaper i decided to form a small questionnaire, well only 2 questions like, but questions that were open to many a opinion:

'What does healthy mean to you? and 'Can you force someone to be healthy?'
I got a mass of research from the responses, the overriding conclusion being that you cannot force anyone to be healthy,it's ultimately up to that person and that person alone. They must have the will power(cheers Mum!) motivation,self-discipline and determination to do so.

So,new brief. This is to be in formed from the reading week research brief and Monday briefing and workshop. And from the workshop, taking into consideration statements of opinion/fact and open/closed questions,i have learnt:

Closed questions=Fact/stats responses
Open questions=opinionated responses

Bonus!!
3 high impact posters, that deliver a 'personal identified message'.This message came from the quote research in the first part of the brief.
Keep it simple.no black or white in final resolutions.1 poster=type.1 poster=image.1 poster=type and image.A3 scale but not A3 format. TOO MANY LIMITATIONS!

phallic looking carrots+'eat me'=funny, but likely to offend!
so i took all the visual stuff i'd done and applied it to another radical, cancer fighting SUPER food...the humble apple.

'An apple a day keeps the doctor away'

and my final resolutions...
kinda harsh on the eyes right??? i think so to but 'high impact' was the name of the game.

NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS-part 1

im researching the quote

'You can't force someone to be healthy'

and forming an opinion...

..but i cant actually locate the headline!

WHAT IS ORANGE?

errrmm...(this is now something i increasingly say a lot!)

This is another of those briefs where we had to produce 10 resolutions. But these resolutions had to visually answer 'WHAT IS ORANGE?
why 10?why,why,why??

'Colour is the most immediate form of non-verbal communication. We naturally react to colour...'

Again i got a dictionary definition and thought about the words that the colour orange conjured up in my mind.I guess these came from associations and just odd words that came to me! Next step was thinking about what context i would associate or find orange in,what objects i would associate with orange and finally what phrases arise from the colour orange. This approach to idea generation worked quite well for me.A mish mash of mad words-associated with orange in some way-being the result.
p.s. im not really in a band called Duck Feet Riot!!

(even though it would be pretty fit!)

In the making...

the final resolutions

Im not sure what to think. Even though i know what these 10 compositions mean,i dont think visually-apart from the stock colour- they represent the colour 'orange' that well.My interpretation contains elements of what i feel orange is,but that wouldnt necessarily be understood by someone else??????
this one's a thinker...

I like collecting records.
I dont have a record player... its purely for the sleeve artwork!
No real reason for this add so i'll link them to this colour theory stuff.
Afterall,it was the colour that attracted me to them (and i love David Bowie!)

Colour Me!

some more colour experimentation...

I did actually enjoy this part of the colour theory workshop, photographing different compositions of objects on coloured card-a simple task! I think you begin to appreciate how colour works; those colours that work well together and those that dont.
Im guessing what you take from this workshop informs how and whether you do actually use colour in future briefs.
errrmm, looks like i have a slight love affair with that feather man...its everywhere!

My favourite COLOUR!

Nah,it really is i swear!

Even my bedroom at home is orange...that's pure, pure dedication to the colour that is ORANGEi tell u!

This is just ironic because my 10 collected items all had to be orange, spooky! My first item being a pastry brush/kinky tickling device! i received on the very first day.Add Image

Colour theory

with the rest of my 'orange' group and with all of our orange collected objects,we tried to arrange our stuff into some kinda scale of light to dark/most red to most yellow orange.Im not sure it really worked...just looked like a mass arrangement of orange 'things'=pretty!

nice chicken Boris!!!
